The Götheborg Ship

As one of the official sponsors and the only banking sponsor of the Götheborg ship, Swedbank held a series of activities for the first week after the ship arrived in Shanghai on August 29th 2006. A Swedbank top management delegation led by Jan Lidén, President and CEO of Swedbank came to Shanghai and brought more than 200 corporate customers from every part of Sweden.

The program consisted of a series of seminars that explored the possibilities and conditions for starting up production in China and how to make business on the Chinese market. A number of study visits at Chinese corporations and Industrial Parks in the Jiangsu province also took place. After their arrival in Shanghai on August 29, the delegation joined the welcoming ceremony of the ship. On August 30, they had a study tour in Shanghai and embarked the ship as the first group of visitors to the Götheborg in Shanghai. In the evening, Swedbank hosted a cocktail party and dinner onboard the ship, inviting VIPs from Shanghai Municipality Financial Services Office, Banking Supervisory Authorities, and major Chinese & foreign banks in Shanghai.

On August 31, Swedbank arranged a day filled with Seminars for more than 200 Swedish companies on how to do business in China at Howard Johnson Hotel. The Mayor of Gothenburg made a welcoming speech. The Swedish Ambassador in China, Swedish Trade Council, Invest in Sweden Agency China, and representatives from famous Swedish companies also made presentation. On Sep 1, the delegation traveled to Zhangjiagang, Changshu and Suzhou to investigate the local investment environments and visited some companies. In the evening, these more than 200 delegation members, joined by local Swedish companies in China, attended a Swedish Crayfish Party at the tent in the Swedish Village along the ship berth.
